Film director Guido (Marcelo Maschuanni Marcello Mastroianni) feels exhausted after finishing a film, he goes to a health resort to rest and starts to think about the next film. He was haunted by nightmares, low spirits and stagnant inspiration. He lets his mistress Carla (Sandra Milo Sandra Milo) also come to the resort to keep him company, but Carla's arrival only adds to his troubles.
