The film is adapted from the novel of John Le Carre, the author of "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy". The story takes place in contemporary Hamburg, Germany. A mysterious man came to the local Muslim community for help. The man, half Chechen and half Russian, was seriously injured. He came here to recover his father's huge amount of illegal income. Everyone around him was skeptical about his identity. Is he a victim or a thief, or worse, with an extremely horrible purpose? Also involved is a British banker and a young female lawyer. At the same time, an experienced German spy is watching them all the time, trying to unravel what kind of medicine is sold in the mysterious man's gourd.
