All My Compatriots

All My Compatriots 7.7

Praised by Milos Forman as "the spiritual leader of the Czech New Wave", this film is the work of director Fauchak Yasni who won the Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival in 1969. The story spans nearly 20 years, from the end of World War II in 1948 to the Soviet Union's invasion of the Czech Republic in 1968. A countryside that was originally simple and natural was finally rejoiced after the war, but it was quickly destroyed by the communism that followed, and the villagers who were happy to know their fate also began to fight openly and intriguingly. This thought-provoking and poetic film brilliantly presents the ugliness, selfishness and tragedy of human nature in nearly two hours of absurd drama, which is not to be missed.
