Nowadays, "bone washing" rituals are becoming more and more rare, but Suguo Island, located on the west side of the Okinawa Islands, still retains this custom. It is said that after the death of the local people, the bodies have to be buried in the west of the island, and when they are reduced to bones, relatives have to dig up the bones and wash them with their own hands, so that the family members after death can really die. The hometown of the Xincheng family is in Suguo Village, Suguo Island. Xincheng, the eldest son, has just returned to Liguo Island, ready to help his deceased mother Huimiko wash her bones. His father, Xincheng Xinguang, who lived alone on the island, had a very bad life because of the death of his wife, he returned to the alcohol he had intended to quit. The eldest daughter Yuko also returned home, and as a hairdresser in Nagoya, she also encountered all kinds of difficulties in her life. A "bone washing" ceremony allowed the family to be reunited and began to re-examine themselves.
