Aggie, the bar waitress (Ashley Judd Ashley Judd), has recently been plagued by inexplicable phone calls, and her husband Jerry (Harry Connick Harry Connick Jr, Jr.) has been released from prison, worrying Aggie. RC, Aggie's same-sex lover, introduces her to a new man Peter (Michael Shannon Michael Shannon). Peter is shy and slightly weird, but Aggie trusts him to provide a sofa for Peter to sleep that night. The next day, Jerry visited, beat Aggie and humiliated Peter and left. Aggie and Peter revealed each other's secrets. Aggie had lost his youngest son, and Peter had been chosen as the subject of the experiment when he was in the army. He escaped from the painful experiment. The two helpless men lived together, but Peter suspected that there were bugs left by the experiment in his blood, a fear that haunted them and made the situation get out of control.
