Li Zhongxiu (Liu Yaren), a young man who aims to become a writer, usually supports himself by taking a part-time job. The father, who runs animal husbandry, is insensitive and is plagued with lawsuits, forcing Zhong Xiu to run around again in order to rescue his father. On this day, Zhong Xiu reunited with her classmate Shen Huimei (Quan Zhong Shu) in a large market. Huimei plans to travel to Africa in the near future, so she asks Zhong Xiu to look after her cat Boil. Soon after Huimei returned home, a man named Ben (Steven Yuan) got off the plane with her. Ben drives a Porsche, lives in a high-end apartment, is leisurely, doesn't work, plays everywhere, and feels like heaven and earth compared with Zhong Xiu. For some reason, Ben walked into the life of civilian Zhong Xiu and Huimei and told his new friends about his strange hobbies. After the night when Zhong Xiu's family got together, Huimei seemed to disappear without a trace. This film is based on Haruki Murakami's short story Burning the House.
