The story takes place at the Governor's School in Kittridge, where James (William hurt William Hurt) is a teacher. With his own maverick teaching methods, James soon won the favor of his students and the trust of his colleagues, and James himself was very satisfied with his peaceful life here. Sarah (Mary Marlee Matlin) used to be a student in this school. After graduation, she returned to work as a cleaner after several twists and turns. Because of her physical disability, Sarah was withdrawn, but this attracted James' attention. He approached Liz on his own initiative, hoping that Liz could regain her self-confidence and continue her studies. With the passage of time, Liz's attitude towards James changed from her initial resistance to a slight affection, her personality began to change slowly, and the closer she was to James. But just then, a new problem appeared.
