"the countercurrent from the bottom of my Heart" tells the surreal story of a married deep cabinet man on the coast of Peru who makes a difficult choice between a conservative environment and a beloved male ghost. The original title "Contracorriente" literally translates into "turning back waves", which refers to the form in which the waves turn back, reverse, converge and overlap against the coast in the front and back resistance, implying the taboo love between the protagonist Migu (Cristian Mercado) and Santiago (Manolo Cardona). Migu is about to become a father, but he is quietly in love with the ghost of the painter Sandiago who drowned. In order to stay together, he hid the body of Santiago, but brought unbearable weight to his life. In the end, Migu let go of this relationship so that Santiago's soul was saved. The film won the World Film audience Award (World Cinema Audience Award) at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and competed for the 2011 Academy Award for Best Foreign language Film on behalf of Peru.
