Bruno Ganz, a poet with terminal cancer, was refused the day before he was admitted to the hospital waiting to die when he tried to entrust the dog that had been with him to his own daughter. Alexander left sadly because of his daughter's ignorance of her situation and her son-in-law's intention to sell his ancestral house. As Alexander was alone on the last day of his life, many fragments of the life of his wife Anna, visits to her elderly and frail mother living alone in a nursing home, and Solomon, a 19th century poet who spent most of her life studying, met him one by one in real or dreamlike form to help him solve his confusion about how long tomorrow will last.
