In the traditional trading town of Porto in the mid-19th century, the proud rich son Augusto, a friend of the writer Camilo, fell in love with Fanny, the youngest daughter of a British officer. After facing obstacles and several on-and-off games, they were finally able to get married. But after marriage, Augusto snubbed Fanny because of her correspondence with Camilo. After that, Fanny fell ill with tuberculosis and died in her depressed and lonely married life. Augusto soon followed in Fanny's footsteps because of the tribulations of fate. This film is Olivera's masterpiece, which tells about the destructive love between aristocrats in the changing society and the unique buckle and aesthetic personality of aristocratic men.
