The story takes place in the summer of 1941, when Pavitt (Montgomery Clift Montgomery Clift) has just been transferred to the Hawaiian barracks, and company commander Homer (Philip Ober) sees that Pavitt has a strong physique and invites him to join the boxing team in the army. Unexpectedly, Pavitt refused Homer's invitation, which made Homer angry and embarrassed. Pavitt was also a good player in boxing, but in an accident he hurt his opponent's eyes and blinded him, and with remorse, he vowed never to stand in the ring again. Holmes' wife Karen (Deborah Cole Deborah Kerr) is beautiful and gentle, seduced by Petty Officer Walden (Burt Lancaster Burt Lancaster). In an accident, the malicious provocation of Petty Officer Johnson (Ernest Borgnine Ernest Borgnine) led to the death of soldier Maggio (Frank Sinatra Frank Sinatra). In the face of this tragedy, Pavitt decided not to put up with it any longer. He waved to Johnson angrily.
