Burt Lancaster plays Buck, a veteran who fought and died in World War II, who was sent to the abandoned village of Meihua. Buck thought that the Vietnam War was a "stupid war" and did not work very hard. He only perfunctorily filled some volunteer recruits with no combat experience and Vietnamese mercenaries, only to find a large number of Vietnamese Communist Party troops to besiege Meihua Village. Buck had to seriously ask for more troops under tight circumstances. But at this time, the general in charge of the command ordered the retreat because he thought that Meihua Village had no strategic value, which evolved into a sensational incident in Meihua Village in the early days of the Vietnam War. The script really lived up to a large number of soldiers with different personalities, and director Ted Post successfully shot the satirical comedy of the first paragraph and the hot battle of the latter.
