Jed Vance (Gabriel Besso) from southern Ohio is a Yale law school student and a former Marine. He was about to get his dream job, but something happened to his hometown in the Appalachian mountains, forcing him to return to the home he was desperately trying to escape. In the middle of Jed at home is a complex family relationship, especially the moody mother Bev (Amy Adams), who is suffering from drug addiction. What he faces also reminds him of his grandmother (Glenn Cross), who is what he calls his grandmother, who is tough and smart, shouldering the responsibility of raising him. Between the blows of reality and the memories of the past, Jed finally understood the indelible imprint his family had left on his life. Song of the desperate, adapted from Jed Vance's New York Times best seller, is directed by Oscar winner Ron Howard. The play depicts the problems faced by the three characters belonging to different generations, as well as the joys and sorrows along the way. This is a powerful personal memoir and a story of family survival and victory.
