Although Trevor (Brendan Fraser) is an address professor at the university, he often does things that challenge tradition. He believes that Verne's novels are not science fiction, but actually exist. It was because of such opposing theories that it was rumored to be a joke in the academy and his academic reputation was ruined. But Trevor didn't care about this. He firmly believed that his theory was correct. To test his theory, Trevor takes his nephew Sean (Josh Hutcherson) and local guide Hannah (Anita Briem) on a trip to Iceland. While traveling, the three accidentally discovered a strange cave and stepped through the thin ice and fell into the bottomless abyss while exploring. However, when they woke up, they found a mysterious earth-centered world with various strange creatures, exactly the same as the scenes described in Verne's novels. The evidence was finally found, but how to bring it back to the ground? Trevor and the others began a journey of finding a way out...
