This film is the first color film made by the Soviet Union after World War II and won the Cannes Film Festival Award and the Stalin Art Film Award for Best Director. The film is based on Russian folklore. Danila, a young stonemason, carved a jewel flower as a token of love to his fiancee, but the Tongshan witch suddenly appeared and seduced Danila with magic.
