In August 1914, when the German army made progress in northern France, four boys between the ages of 10 and 15, Lucien, Lucas, Luigi and Ludwig, were left behind when they evacuated the orphanage. Soon, Ruth, a little girl separated from her parents, joined them, and they decided to do everything they could to get to neutral Switzerland, and an unprepared adventure began.
