Girl Christine (Saoirse Ronan) follows her family to a missionary school in California to start her high school career. Although she has all kinds of reluctance in her heart, Christine does not have enough strength to resist her family and life arrangements. At school, Christine's best friend is Julie (Beanie Feldstein), and the two people with similar views talk about everything. Christine participates in a stage drama competition and thus meets a boy named Danny (Lucas Hedges). The two attracted to each other soon get together. However, the relationship eventually ended in a breakup. In order to get close to campus socialite Jenna (Odeya Rush), Kristin does not hesitate to lie. Unfortunately, lying does not bring true friendship. While Christine is embroiled in an emotional entanglement with Kyle (Timothée Chalamet), her family is also going through difficult times.
