On the eve of World War II, Sandick (Walter Pidgeon), a British officer, was arrested for the assassination of Hitler's mountain manor. Sandick was tortured and pushed off a cliff by the Germans because he refused to admit that he had been ordered by the British government. Sandick, who survived the disaster, returned to England by boat. At the same time, the German government also put pressure on Britain when the German side sent officers pretending to be Sandick and public eyes to pursue him throughout the city. Sandick meets Jerry (Joan Bennett), a cheerful and straightforward girl, who is attracted to him and tries his best to help him on his way to escape. Sandick and Jerry spent a short time of innocence, but he could not give each other more happiness in the crisis situation. The Germans soon found Sandick's hideout and took Jerry, which made the situation facing Sandick extremely bad.
