Van Nistelrooy (Betty Davis Bette Davis) is a socialite in high society, and every man is eager to see her delicate face and graceful figure. Van Nistelrooy has a brother named George (Walter Abel Walter Abel) who works under the hands of Mr. Skeffington (Claude Raines Claude Rains). Because of George's fault, he owes Mr. Skeffington a sum of money, and in order to pay off the debt, Fanny has to marry Mr. Skeffington, who has always had a crush on her. George felt humiliated by the news of his sister's marriage to her boss. After losing his temper, he went to the front and took part in World War I. Years passed in the twinkling of an eye, when van Nistelrooy got the news of his brother's death again, the grief-stricken van Nistelrooy blamed all this on her husband.
