Oliver (John Howard Davis John Howard Davies) is abandoned as soon as he is born, and after nine years in an orphanage, he is sent to a coffin shop as an apprentice. Unable to bear the misery of life, Oliver ran away from his master and came to Paris, where he became acquainted with Guinness (Alec Guinness Alec Guinness). In this way, Oliver was forced to start his career as a pickpocket. By chance, Oliver was arrested by the police, but luckily he was taken in by the kind-hearted old gentleman Brillo (Henry Stephenson Henry Stephenson). Oliver, who had been wandering all his life, finally realized the taste of home. Unfortunately, the pickpocket gang is reluctant to let Oliver go. They kidnap him. Among them, a girl named Nancy (Kay Walsh) feels sorry for Oliver. She decides to disobey her boss's orders and help the poor child as much as she can.
