Meet Sue, a teenage Australian girl in the late 1970s, whose life is mainly about doing what no one else has-watching surfer boys have sex with the same surf boys. Girls emulate many strange customs, such as not eating or going to the bathroom when a boy. Ugly girls have two choices-scold, hate boys, or generally cheap and look down on everyone. Afternoons are spent on the beach, in the back seat of the car, or at home alone, where gender and alcohol are the main components. Both parents and teachers try to straighten out their children, but it is not easy.
