Knowing that he would soon be born, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty decided to pass on the 14th Prince (Mo Shaocong). The latter fourteen Prince was suddenly assassinated by a masked killer and was fortunately saved by his confidant Zeng Jing (Xu Shaoqiang). It turned out that the fourth Prince (Liu Yong) had long coveted the throne and sent someone to assassinate his younger brother; after the failure of the fourth Prince's plan, he bribed Zeng Jing but failed to seek merit, and found the help of Gengyao (Bai Biao) in the year of both Wen and Wu. He even courted the anti-Qing literati Lu Liuliang (Gu Feng) and his niece Lu Siniang (Liu Xuehua), pretending that if he helped him ascend the throne, he vowed to fulfill the agreement of the "Manchu Han family."
