The film won the Academy Award for Best make-up, the French Caesar Award for Best Picture and Best Director. Around the search for fire, the film scientifically and vividly reproduces the side of human life in the Paleolithic Age. A Paleolithic tribe was lost to a swamp after being attacked and killed by other tribes and chased by wolves. Frightened, hungry and cold, dead, injured, the fire guarded by the tribe was mercilessly extinguished at this critical juncture. Overnight, the tribe fell from the rich economic life of a bonfire in a cave dwelling to a homeless wilderness, shivering in the cold night. Without fire, even if there are no enemy beasts to chase and kill, the tribe will not survive the cold injury for long. An elder of the tribe made a decision of far-reaching historical significance, and the elder appointed three brave men to go out in search of fire.
