The story takes place in New York in 2001. Ruth (Jutta Lampe) has just lost her beloved husband Ben (Romijn Conen), which makes her spirit on the verge of collapse. In order to mourn her husband, Ruth decided to abide by the Jewish tradition and extend the mourning period to 30 days, which means Ruth's daughter Hannah (Maria Skillard Maria Schrader) will miss the original wedding date for her boyfriend Louis (Federja Van Huette Fedja van Hu ê t), which makes Hannah feel very dissatisfied. Hannah went to Berlin, where she found her mother's former good friend Lena (Kajariman Katja Riemann).
