Seven-year-old Dejiu (Zheng Zhixun) lives in a small village with his sister Dexi and his grandfather (Li Shunzai). A few years ago, Dejiu's father died in a traffic accident, and his battered mother died soon after. Grandpa can only do odd jobs around and try to support his two grandchildren, but he can't even afford to buy a toy car for Dejiu. When Dejiu was about to enter primary school, Grandpa found that his time was running out. He was worried that the young Dejiu would not be able to take care of himself and his sister. Grandpa prepared the last gift for his two grandsons.
