The Celluloid Closet

The Celluloid Closet 7.8

Homosexuality has existed since ancient times. In ancient Greece, the birthplace of European civilization, its status was even higher than that of heterosexuality. Since the beginning of the film, homosexuals have appeared on the screen, but their status has never been high. They can only hide and hide. Academy Award winners Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (director of this film) are determined to set things right, modelled on the classic work on homosexual films, "Film" (Celluloid Closet), and start with the clues left by homosexuals in more than a hundred Hollywood masterpieces, and invite actors who have played gay roles, such as Tom Hanks and Susan Sarandon, to tell what they have seen and heard. The study of homosexuality in movies not only re-examines the development history of Hollywood films from the perspective of homosexuality, but also analyzes the history of blood and tears in the treatment of homosexuality in American mainstream culture.
