Catherine Sloper (Olivia de Havilan) is a shy and ordinary-looking girl who is deceived by the ambitious Maurice Townsend (Montgomery Clift) because she will inherit a lot of money from her parents. Finally, she was wise to see through the trick of the swindler, and her mood finally calmed down. Through this film we see an extremely subtle but restrained love-a practical love that basically eliminates emotional factors. Every scene in the film is accurate in detail, exquisite in conception and full of literature. The film won four awards for best actress, best costume design, best drama and best comedy music at the 22nd Academy Awards.
