When building Jurassic Park on Nubra Island, John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) used nearby Sona Island as a dinosaur manufacturing workshop. After the fall of Jurassic Park, the dinosaurs on Sona Island survived for four years in complete isolation and lacking the necessary synthetic elements. Hammond was very curious about this, so he found Dr. Markum (Jeff Goldblum) and invited him to visit the island. The experience of four years ago left Malcolm with lingering fear. He flatly refused Hammond's proposal, but when he learned that his girlfriend Sarah (Julianne Moore) had gone to the island, he had to follow the expedition and set off.
