This film is a sequel to director Jan Tyrol's 1971 masterpiece the Great Immigrant, both of which are adapted from Vilhelm Moberg's The Emigrants series of novels. This film is based on the last two novels in this series, The Settlers and The Last Letter Home, about a group of Swedish immigrants who built their homes in Minnesota in the mid-19th century.
