Homeless Frank Chambers (John Garfield John Garfield) is attracted by the beautiful landlady Cora Smith (Lana Turner Lana Turner) in a small restaurant by the side of the road. Just as the restaurant is looking for a job, he stays and becomes a waiter. Nick, the restaurant owner, is much older than Cora. When Frank sees the opportunity, he flirts with Cora many times, and finally the two fall in love. The two were ready to elope, but found that they had no financial resources since then, so they went back to the restaurant and decided to murder Nick, creating the illusion that Nick had an accident, and they could get Nick's inheritance. The first operation was wrongly unsuccessful. In the second operation, they succeeded in killing Nick, only to be discovered by a prosecutor. Cora was taken to court.
