The seven-episode Disney+ / Nat Geo series retells Miep Gies's story with the addition of Morning Wind and Claire, Girl's Diaries hostess Bel Powley, Liev Schreiber, who returned after the Sweeper, and Joe Cole, who has just finished the Ipcress Archives. Joan Rater and Tony Phelan from Grey's Anatomy will write a screenplay for the show, after Susanna Fogel, who previously directed the flight attendant crisis, confirmed that he had directed multiple episodes. This time Bel will play the protagonist Miep, while Joe will play her husband "Jan" and Liev will play Anne Frank's father, Otto Frank. In her twenties, Miep received a request from Otto to hide in her home to avoid Nazi persecution of Jews at that time. Miep, her husband Jan and others shouldered the burden without hesitation; for the next two years, they took care of eight people, including Otto and Anne.
