The story tells the story of Laura Simmonds and her consular colleague and friend Alba Ortiz in Barcelona, fighting to protect British nationals who are in trouble in Catalonia. The roles of Laura and Alba are a mix of lawyers, consultants and police, and their diplomatic skills are at their best in solving various dilemmas. The show begins with the inexplicable death of a young Englishman who worked as a bartender near Barcelona's infamous pier. Although both the Spanish police and the British Foreign Office agreed that it was a tragic accident, Laura supported the boy's grieving father, Colin, who firmly believed that something worse had happened the night his son died. As new evidence emerges and a murder investigation unfolds, Laura and Alba find a link between the death of a bartender, organized crime and the British security services. Laura is determined to expose the secrets that Britain and Spain have spared no effort to hide, and her pursuit of justice puts her in real danger.
