The show tells the story of a fictional television station, Atlantis Cable News (ACN), in front and behind the scenes. Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels Jeff Daniels) is a veteran news presenter who brings high ratings to ACN's flagship eight o'clock show "Evening News", but has caused dissatisfaction among team members because he is domineering and headstrong. When he returned to the office just after his vacation, he found that most of his subordinates were going to find another job and were collectively poached. McAvoy's boss, Charlie Skinner (Sam Watson Sam Waterston), the head of the news department of the ACN network, has a brilliant vision and journalistic ideals, and knows how to save a news program.
