The Outsider (Season 1)

The Outsider (Season 1) 7.6

The show, starring Ben Mendelson, focuses on the rape, murder and dismemberment of an 11-year-old boy, but the seemingly straightforward case raises questions about supernatural forces: in the small town of Flint, Oklahoma, Detective Ralph Anderson arrests popular teacher and Little League baseball coach Terry Maitland in front of a group of people, accusing him of raping and killing a boy and mutilating him. Maitland insists he is innocent, but Anderson has eyewitnesses and conclusive evidence (DNA and fingerprints) to prove his guilt. The district attorney told Anderson to break Maitland's alibi and turn what would have been a protracted court battle into a straightforward case with a clear plot. Anderson was surprised to find that not only were several witnesses claiming that Maitland was out of town at the time of the murder, but security footage also confirmed this. With the help of private investigator Holly Gibney (the character of King's other novel, Mr. Mercedes), Anderson began to investigate the case, leading to clues.
