British woman Edna (Judy Davis) and her future mother-in-law, Mrs. Moore, go to India to visit her fianc é Lonnie, who is a magistrate in India, and to broaden her horizons at the same time. Edna's mind was not about communication between whites, but more eager to learn about the exotic customs of India, so she got acquainted with the local doctor Ace, who was full of pure admiration for the British, although occasionally disappointed. But he still admired Mrs. Moore's elegance and often helped white people out at the expense of embarrassment. In order to satisfy Edna's wish, the kind Ace acted as a guide to show Edna and Mrs. Moore around the Malaba Cave on the outskirts of the country. unexpectedly, the two women felt uncomfortable in the cave, and Edna ran out of the cave covered with scars. The trip caused an uproar, and the British side thought Ace wanted to do something wrong to Edna and imprisoned her. The fate of ace is now in Edna's hands. This film is adapted from E.M. Forster's novel and won more than ten professional awards such as Best supporting Actress at the Academy Award in 1985.
