The story tells the story of a wife of a wealthy family (Marlene Dietrich) who was left out because her husband (Herbert Marshall) devoted himself to work and secretly flew to Paris to relax and relieve her agitation. At the home of a duchess of an old friend, she happened to encounter Melvin Douglas, who was also visiting at that time. The two sides seemed to fall in love at first sight and have a romantic dinner together. But then Dietrich stopped the brief relationship and left her frustrated lover and hurried home without leaving her name. A few months later, at a social reception, Douglas first recognized Marshall as his comrade-in-arms many years ago. The two did not recall the past with much emotion. Marshall warmly invited an old friend to be a guest at home, and a series of the most dramatic parts began.
