The film begins with Dr. Martin (Robert Powell) arriving in an unrecognized area of rural England in a remote shelter "hopelessly crazy". He made his way to the agency's manager's office, wheelchair hopping and dictatorship of Dr. lionel Rutherford (Patrick Magee). Before turning his attention to Martin's recent application, Rutherford explained that he owed him the current inability to attack the prisoner ("Don't block the patient", he coldly advised), to the head doctor position being created. He went on to come up with an unorthodox plan to determine Martin's suitability for the post. The current prisoner in one of the shelters is B. doctor. Starr, who accepted a complete mental illness left to Starr apparently completely unaware of all the true previous identities of the former head doctor (and may thus suffer from false memory syndrome). Rutherford challenged Martin to interview prisoners at the shelter and deduce which one was Dr. Starr. If his choice is correct, Rutherford will "consider" him for the post. Martin runs a shelter.
