Galicia province on the eve of World War I in 1914. Poles, Ukrainians and Jews of three different nationalities live together in this area. The country hotel is run by a clever old Jewish man. The neighboring villages have been abandoned by the Jews because the Bicossacks are about to move in. Soon the country hotel was crowded with Jews in distress. There was also a fugitive Austrian Baroness and a Hungarian light cavalry expelled from the army.
