The film is based on the memoir of the same name by Oliver Sachs, a British neurologist in New York City. In 1969, Malcolm Searle (Robin Williams Robin Williams), a shy and introverted brain surgeon with enthusiasm for experiments, came to a hospital in the Bronx to treat patients with ankylosing syncope. With the help and encouragement of nurse Eleanor (Julie Kafna Julie Kavner), Dr. Searle boldly uses drugs to revive a group of patients who have fainted for decades, especially for Leonard Law (Robert de Niro Robert De Niro). But surprisingly, soon after the patients woke up, there was a trend of deterioration one after another. The film was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor (Robert de Niro) and Best adapted Screenplay at the Academy Award, and was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series at the Golden Globes (Robin Williams).
