Based on the novel of the same name, this film tells the story of a boy's sexual awakening. Randy, a 17-year-old black boy, is the leader of the school choir and grew up in a devout southern family. The whole family was torn apart because his sister was missing, and Randy had to deal with his often unexpected same-sex fantasies. He and his best friends in the school drama decided to stage a male version of Romeo and Juliet, while the white boy Marshall happened to break into Randy's life and pursue him forcefully. Randy found it increasingly difficult to adapt to the transition from adolescence to adulthood, and more importantly, he began to blur the boundary between fantasy and reality.
