Horikawa Zhouping (Li Zhizhong), a teacher who lives in Kanazawa, is a man with a rough life. His wife died at an early age, and Zhou Ping raised his son Liangping alone for many years. During an outing, a student unfortunately drowned and Zhou Ping resigned as the person in charge. After losing his job, he took his son back to his hometown Xinzhou and got a job in the village to scrape by. Liangping studied hard. He entered a post-secondary boarding school, and in order to support his son to finish his studies, Zhou Ping went to work in Tokyo alone. Over the years, Huang Tian (Sano Tuesday) was admitted to Sendai Emperor Da, and then got the position of a teacher in a school in Akita. He hoped to be reunited with his father, but Zhou Ping fully supported his son's cause and could not bear to hold him back. In the turbulent years of migration, father and son are separated from each other. The screenplay of this film was written by Yasujiro Ozu on the eve of his battle in 1937.
