The story takes place in New York. Although the three childhood playmates live different lives in the same city, they always maintain a pure friendship. One day, they received a notice to enlist in the army together, and had only 30 days to prepare. Rifkin, a married lawyer with a rising career and recently promoted to partner in a law firm, is looking for legal loopholes in the enlistment process to evade military service. Feiler is working on his second novel, the first of which has been an unprecedented success, but the recruitment notice undoubtedly ruined his plan. Feiler instead made a list of the ten things he most wanted to do, hoping to finish them before he joined the army. Dixon, a taxi driver who had been living alone, was excited about joining the army and proud that he would become a soldier until he realized that he might lose a lot after joining the army. In 30 days, the three protagonists' concepts of friendship, life, death, courage and love will all be tested.
