This film is adapted from real events and tells the story of a team of oil workers who fought against the disaster with supreme courage and firm will and struggled to save themselves when faced with the most serious man-made disaster in history. 40 miles offshore, the world's leading offshore drilling platform, the Deepwater Horizon, stands on the vast surface of the Gulf of Mexico. Deputy platform manager Mike Williams (played by Mark Wahlberg) leads his team to complete a record-breaking drilling operation. Unexpectedly, sudden unstable well pressure and surge caused the emergency safety system to fail, which immediately triggered a series of explosions. Deep-sea crude oil burst through the manhole cover and spewed out, forming an oil column dozens of meters high, and a towering fire followed. Millions of tons of raw oil poured out, and the entire drilling platform and nearby sea level were surrounded by smoky smoke and raging fires, turning it into purgatory on earth, trapping 126 drilling workers. Because the fire was too strong, the maritime rescue team could not get close. Mike led several brave companions to launch a self-rescue operation. They searched for the injured, arranged for evacuation, and held on until the last moment. The drilling platform is about to sink, and Mike and his companions must escape in dire straits.
