David Lurie (John Markovich John Malkovich) teaches at a university in Cape Town, but when he is over 50, he is punished by the school for seducing and having sex with female students. At the hearing organized by the school, David confessed to the charges made by the school, but showed no sign of repentance. Forced to resign, David goes to the farm of his daughter Lucy (Jessica Haines Jessica Haines) in a small mountain town, but is accidentally robbed and raped by three gangsters. David feels very sorry for his helplessness, but his daughter's cold attitude towards the matter makes him angry, and his daughter's repeated concessions to his black neighbors make him even more confused. David felt ashamed. He felt like a dog. The film is adapted from the Nobel Prize-winning novel of the same name and won the Best Film Award at the Middle East Film Festival and the International Federation of Film critics Award at the Toronto Film Festival in 2008.
