During the Battle of Stalingrad, Vasily (Jude Law) was a sharpshooter who shocked the troops. His good marksmanship hit every shot and made the enemy afraid. In order to stimulate morale and set an example, Vasily's comrade in arms, Danilov (played by Joseph Fiennes), an officer of the Soviet Army's Cultural Propaganda Department, published a large number of Vasily's heroic deeds in the newspaper, making Vasily's image even taller. However, the appearance of Tania (Rachel Weisz) made Vasily and Danilov fall in love with this brave female soldier at the same time. But Tania liked Vasily, which made Danilov jealous. On the other hand, the Germans send their sniper Connie (Ed Harris) to challenge Vasili, who is also a sharpshooter. On the smoke-filled battlefield, Vasily and Connie began a duel of wits and courage.
