Russian film guru Alexander Sokolov has been preparing for a new film, the occupied Louvre, since he won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2011 for Faust. This time Sokolov focused his camera on the Louvre in Paris, dragging time and space back to World War II to explore the core relationship between art and politics under Nazi occupation. The film has been shortlisted for the Golden Lion Award at the 72nd Venice Film Festival and has been dormant for four years. Russian film masters will once again debut in Shuicheng with their new works. I wonder if they can win the grand prize again, but this time, as the world premiere of the film, it has attracted enough attention. Sokolov has always been keen on making films on history and power. Three of his masterpiece "Power Quadrilogy" involve: Molloch, about Hitler, forgotten Lenin, and the Sun, about Emperor Hirohito of Japan. As an art lover, Sokolov also has a penchant for museums with cultural collections, including the St. Petersburg Winter Palace Museum in his 2002 masterpiece, the Russian Ark. The new book, the occupied Louvre, focuses directly on the Louvre in France, one of the four major museums in the world, and will stage a calendar of art, politics and culture.
