Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) and colleagues Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Nash (Lucas Haas) failed in an operation to steal a dream against Japanese energy tycoon Saito (Kenyan Watanabe), but were instead used by Saito. Saito coerced and lured Cobb, who was in exile because he was wanted, to help him break up his competitor's company, and took extreme measures to plant the idea of giving up the family company and setting up his own business in the deep subconscious of his only heir, Robert Fisher (Cillian Murphy). In order to return to the United States, Cobb secretly turns to his father-in-law Myers (Michael Caine) for help, recruiting young dream designer Ariadney (Ellen Page), dream actor Ames (Tom Hardy) and pharmacist Joseph (Dilip Law Dileep Rao) to join the action.
