During World War II, boy Jojo (Davis) and his mother (Scarlett) lived under Nazi Germany. He did not know that his mother hid a Jewish girl (Mackenzie) at home, and that her mother secretly worked for the Resistance. Jojo longed to join the Hitler Youth League. He had a subversive version of Hitler in his mind. This Hitler was charming, silly, innocent and lovely. He was his friend and helped him cope with the difficulties in life.
