The story takes place in the small town of Passahoe, Georgia, where the choir of the local church is about to take part in a national competition called "Happy noise". However, at this juncture, the choir director died suddenly, lost the conductor's leadership, and the whole choir was on the verge of collapse. The church appoints a woman named Ross (Quinn Latifah Queen Latifah) to be the new choir conductor. Ross is a very old-fashioned person who wants everything to happen according to the routine, while the conductor's widow Sparrow (Dolly Parton Dolly Parton) doesn't think so. she thinks she should take over the choir and try a new style. Sparrow's grandson Bernard (Chris Kristofferson Kris Kristofferson) falls in love with Ross's daughter Olivia (Coco Palmor Keke Palmer), which exacerbates the conflict between the two women.
