Julia (Tilda Tilda Swinton), an older woman in Los Angeles, is an alcoholic who gets drunk every night and hangs out with strange men until she loses her job because she is late and is forcibly sent to AA by her friend Mitch (Saul Rubinek). In the association, Julia meets her neighbor Elena (Kate del Castillo Kate del Castillo), who asks Julia to help kidnap her 10-year-old son Tom (Aidan Cood Aidan Gould). The money-obsessed Julia decided to help and planned to snatch Tom from her for ransom after Elena got it. But things didn't all go according to plan, and Julia had to extort $2 million from Tom's rich grandfather directly; after the withdrawal failed, Julia fled with Tom to the desert south of San Diego and crashed into Mexico during a border police manhunt for stowaways. Just when Julia and Tom really began to establish a friendship, Tom actually disappeared. The film was nominated for the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival and best actress at the Caesar Film Festival.
